Abby Grayson, MA, LPC, NCC
I'm glad you've found me! I know that deciding on the right therapist can be a difficult process, and I welcome any questions you may have for me before committing to an appointment. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is something you want to ask. I love what I do and I want our work together to be meaningful and successful.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor providing individual and couples therapy in Skillman, NJ. I began my career as a therapist treating adult women survivors of trauma and abuse in a partial hospital and intensive outpatient setting. I then moved on to non-profit work in an agency focused on sheltering and counseling survivors of domestic violence. I am now in private practice, where I continue to utilize my extensive experience helping clients to heal from interpersonal trauma, but also work with a broad spectrum of clients with a variety of concerns.
My background in women's issues extends to my other major area of expertise: counseling individuals and couples dealing with infertility and assisted reproduction technology. I understand the challenges related to the process of building a family when it doesn't come as easily as it should, and I am well-versed in helping clients maneuver through this complicated emotional terrain.
Whatever your personal struggle may be, I use a variety of clinical methodologies and a strengths-based perspective to help you find your way to healing and balance. It's my feeling that no one therapeutic strategy is appropriate for every client -- instead, I get to know you as an individual or a couple and fit the therapy to your personal needs. While my foundation as a therapist is psychodynamic in nature (which means that I believe our past experiences do impact our present thinking and functioning), I also know that the here-and-now is just as important. We will work together to decide where to focus your treatment.
I am trained to diagnose and treat many mental health issues and to utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities in an integrated manner, depending on what is right for you. From cognitive-behavioral strategies, to solution-focused, family systems, and dialectical behavioral therapy techniques, I have a large skill set to draw from. Yet my core orientation as a therapist is person-centered, meaning I will get to know you and to understand your story while providing caring, non-judgmental support and feedback to help make change possible.
I understand that life throws us curveballs we can't anticipate, and that the things that happen to us and have happened in our past are not always healthy or fair. Life really can be a difficult journey, and there are times when we all need someone to help us navigate it. I am always working to be my own best authentic self, and I will never ask anything more than that from you as we collaborate to help you achieve your own goals and personal growth.
I received my undergraduate degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. I received my Master's in Counseling from The College of New Jersey.
I am licensed in the state of New Jersey as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as being nationally certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC).
